'Too many condoms, not enough morals.' (Stone family complain about a school sex education lesson given by a hospital Aids department employee)
Article Abstract:
Chosen Hill School, Gloucester included a sex education lesson given by a representative of the local hospital Aids department in their health education timetable. Malachi Stone, a pupil at the school, felt that the way the lesson was presented encouraged pupils to have sex or masturbate, whereas he thought casual sex ought to have been positively discouraged. His Christian parents complained that there was no warning of this lesson and that it gave an imbalanced view, promoting promiscuous behaviour.

Fewer hours in the school day, more terms in the year
Article Abstract:
The London Borough of Hammersmith and Fulham encourages school governing bodies to use the continental or compressed day, where the timetable starts and finishes earlier. Children are thought to study best in the morning and concentrate less in the afternoon.Staffordshire County Council found 68% of its governing bodies favoured a four-term year but decided it would need to be adopted nationally. Deputy director of the Institute of Education, Peter Mortimer favours a five-term year.

Is your child's school as good as you think it is?
Article Abstract:
School league tables published by the UK government give relatively little real information to parents, as they simply present examination results on the basis of qualifications gained. The figures are not given any context, and can therefore be very misleading. It is quite possible that schools with high rankings are not making any effort to improve standards, while those with lower rankings are working very hard and achieving very good results for their less able pupils.
