Article Abstract:
The recent scare about BSE has highlighted the precarious nature of rural life in the UK today. Urban consumers have a very wide range of choices, and this represents a power which could easily eliminate rural businesses. There will be many cases of traditional farming lifestyles coming to an end, but this will be of no concern to those living in urban areas. Until relatively recently, town dwellers respected farmers, but this is no longer the case.

Clean up Britain, but don't do it from the pulpit
Article Abstract:
Most UK politicians claim to be following Christian principles, but only really understand this to mean that they have good intentions and subscribe to traditional values. In practice, spirituality can have no part in politics. Politicians should be focusing their attention on a practical, secular programme for improving public behaviour, rather than talking about spiritual issues in very weak terms.
