Geoffrey Nicholson
Article Abstract:
Journalist and writer Geoffrey Nicholson did his national service as a lance-bombardier in the Royal Artillery before studying English at University College, Swansea, Wales. He won a scholarship to train as an advertising copy-writer in 1952, and moved to London, England. He established a link with the sports desk of The Observer, and became deputy sports editor there before moving to The Sunday Times as sports features editor. He became sports editor at The Observer in 1976. He reported on the Tour de France for 19 years and wrote two books about it.

Laurence Gandar
Article Abstract:
Journalist Laurence Gandar studied for a Bachelor of Arts at the University of Durban, South Africa. He worked as a journalist on a local newspaper, and then served with the 6th South African Armoured Division in Italy during the second world war. He became assistant editor in the Argus Co, South Africa's leading newspaper concern, and in Oct 1957 was appointed Editor of the Rand Daily Mail. He gained international respect, and was awarded a gold medal from the British Institute of Journalists.
