UK: CRITICISM OF BARCLAYS SHARE OPTION SCHEME

The Association of British Insurers (ABI) has raised concerns over a new executive share option plan from the UK bank Barclays, which could see its chief executive, Matthew Barrett, receive options valued at GB[pound] 86mn. The ABI is unhappy with the disclosure and the transparency of the Incentive Share Option Plan, which is scheduled to come into effect 24 April 2000 at the bank's annual meeting.

UK: HALIFAX REVEALS INTELLIGENT FINANCE PLANS

Leading UK-based home loan bank, Halifax, plans a two-stage launch of Intelligent Finance, with the phone banking operation to be operational initially. The transactional website aspect of the Internet bank will come on stream around ten days after the first part. Halifax is keen to avoid the difficulties that have plagued its rivals.
