UK: BENEFITS OF B2B AMONG SMALL BUSINESSES
Article Abstract:
The UK's small businesses could achieve a GB[pound] 24bn overall saving with the advent of business-to-business (B2B) online commerce, says research undertaken for GroupTrade by the London Economics consultancy. The report envisages that 30% of the overall savings, equal to 3% of GDP, would emanate from reduced prices online, although indirect savings in administrative effort and time would be greater. Gradual growth in B2B e-commerce is envisaged and firms will not realise savings at the outset due to the time taken transferring to online procurement. It is estimated that savings will be GB[pound] 3bn in 2000, increasing in 2002, to GB[pound] 6.5bn. For firms with up to 250 staff, annual cost savings could reach GB[pound] 37,000. The report predicts that by combining buying power, customers would be able to cut cots by 10% to 25%.

Graduates should recognize that the UK's smaller companies offer valuable opportunities for personal development and career progression.
