UK: CONDE NAST LAUNCHES NEW PUBLICATION

Conde Nast has announced that it is to launch a UK version of its Glamour magazine. The young women's fashion magazine was launched in the US back in 1939 but until now has not been available in the UK. Glamour is to become the only A5 sized fashion magazine in the UK when it is launched in Spring 2001. The launch is to be supported by a GB[pound] 5mn marketing campaign and will concentrate on the mid-market fashion and beauty.

GERMANY: BERTELSMANN BUYS EMAP TITLES

Germany's Bertelsmann has acquired 25 business magazines and directories from the UK-based magazine and radio business, Emap, in a GB[pound] 14.3mn agreement. The media, construction and automotive market titles posted combined sales of GB[pound] 14.2mn for the year to March 2000 and are based primarily in Germany and Switzerland.

Satirical magazine Private Eye has a 40-year history of facing litigation that could have shut it down. It has now won a case, gaining 100,000 pounds sterling through the decision by accountant John Stuart Condliffe to end his legal action against the magazine.
