MPs told of 'misleading' Biotech claims
Article Abstract:
A former head of clinical research at the UK drugs firm British Biotech has claimed that the firm has made over-optimistic statements about the prospects for some of the drugs that it is developing. The individual concerned, Andrew Millar, was sacked for making these claims in April but he has been taken seriously by one of British Biotech's main shareholders, the insurer Perpetual, which already had misgivings about the firm. These claims about British Biotech were made to a committee of MPs.

Speeding on the road to mother's ruin
Article Abstract:
Some women are so determined to lose weight that they will even consider using amphetamines, which were used extensively in the 1950s and early 1960s but were regulated by the Misuse of Drugs Act of 1964. They find that amphetamines do allow them to lose weight rapidly, but may also expose them to unwelcome side-effects. These side-effects often arise because those taking amphetamines do not eat properly. In the long term, amphetamines can cause emotional disturbance.
