UK: HUNTINGDON LIFE SCIENCES ANNOUNCES RESULTS

Huntingdon Life Sciences, the UK based drug-testing group, has announced its results for the nine months to 30 September 2000 and compared them to the same period in the previous year. As a result of its continuing losses NatWest, the company's banker, has decided not to renew its GB[pound] 22mn overdraft facility which expired in August 2000. The company has also revealed that it has so far failed to finalise financing to replace its bank facilities. Huntingdon is believed to be trying to arrange alternative financing from a US investment firm called FHP Realty. WORLD: MOVE TO COMBAT TB
Article Abstract:
Public and private organisations worldwide have entered into an agreement to create a new treatment by 2010 to combat tuberculosis (TB). A new drug for TB has not appeared for 30 years and the infectious disease is re-emerging after a period in decline. The alliance, backed by the World Health Organisation and featuring governments charitable bodies and scientists, has a US$ 150mn budget for the first five years. TB causes over 2mn deaths per year, mainly in less well-off countries although in the West the disease is developing an immunity to drugs.
