UK: STRONG INCREASE IN EXECUTIVE SALARIES
Article Abstract:
According to New Bridge Street Consultants, chief executives with the top 350 UK-listed companies have seen an increase of 9.4% in average basic salaries to GB[pound] 362,000 over the space of a year. Their total cash payments rose by 14.6% to GB[pound] 492,000. Chief executives within the FTSE 100 saw total cash payments rise by 12.8% to GB[pound] 758,000, while those in the mid-cap FTSE 250 saw total pay rise by 15.7% to GB[pound] 427,500. The chief executives of the largest 100 companies saw basic salaries rise by 3.6% to an average of GB[pound] 390,500, with total average payments of GB[pound] 910,000. The rate of increases are generally over twice those for staff, and are partly the result of international competition for executives.

UK: EMPLOYERS STRUGGLE TO FIND AND KEEP STAFF
Article Abstract:
According to a survey from the Institute of Personnel & Development, over 25% of professional workers changed job in 1998 and the figure rose to 33% when it came to skilled manual workers and sales staff. Growing confidence in job prospects means that workers are more likely to seek a change, which is making it more difficult for employers to find and keep staff.
