Following the news that Deutsche Telekom of Germany has been raising funds for acquisitions in Europe and the US, shares in Cable & Wireless (C&W) of the UK have risen due to speculation that it could be one of the takeover targets. Rumours suggest that Deutsche Telekom could buy C&W for GB[pound] 32bn, providing the German company with access to the Asia-Pacific region and a strong data communications network. However, both companies have refused to comment on the rumours.
