Ulster's blind 'underdogs.' (Unionists precipitate collapse of peace process in Northern Ireland)(Column)
Article Abstract:
Unionist rebels are placing the Northern Irish peace process in severe danger, becoming involved in the sort of direct conflict which is normally associated with republicans. This is presenting a valuable propaganda opportunity to Sinn Fein, which points out, for example, that loyalists are forcing Catholic families to leave their homes. Direct conflict will do nothing to further the Unionist cause, and will in fact reduce the willingness of the British government to offer assistance.

Now is the time to say sorry
Article Abstract:
The UK government has reacted very critically to the judgement against it made by the European Court of Human Rights on the issue of the killing of IRA terrorists on Gibraltar. It must now decide whether the UK should limit its involvement with the court in the future. This issue is particularly sensitive at this stage of the peace process in Northern Ireland. It is now time for the government to admit that mistakes have been made and to encourage a fresh start in Northern Ireland.

Where is Ulster's Yitzhak Rabin?
Article Abstract:
Moves to establish peace in the Middle East, South Africa and Northern Ireland have been similar in many ways. However, unlike South Africa and the Middle East, Northern Ireland has no clear leader who is prepared to sacrifice himself, possibly even to the point of losing his own life, for the sake of the peace process. This makes Northern Ireland dependent on outside help, which can easily be distracted by other issues.
