Van Gogh fraud may be art world's worst nightmare
Article Abstract:
The discovery that a painting attributed to Van Gogh could be the work of a French art teacher called Schuffenecker has led to a reassessment of how art is perceived. The painting of sunflowers was exhibited as early as 1901 and bought by the Yasuda Fire and Marine Insurance Company for 24.7 million pounds sterling in 1987. Schuffenecker could have faked other works by Gauguin and Cezanne. Schuffeneker's work could prove to be valuable but it is unlikely to be as valuable as that of Van Gogh.

Choose your parents: former addict mother - or middle-class academics
Article Abstract:
An 11-year-old girl and her former drug addict mother have rejected the opportunity for her to be adopted by a middle-class academic couple who had been caring for her. The couple have stated that they will not keep the girl unless they are permitted to adopt her. It is now possible that the girl will live with her mother or go to new foster parents. This case has highlighted problems in bringing together a child's best interests and the wishes of the child and its natural parents.

What a way to run an opinion poll
Article Abstract:
Many observers have expressed criticism of the recent Carlton Television programme on the monarchy, which prompted 2.6 million people to participate in a telephone poll. They feel that the discussion was of a very poor standard and that there were problems with the format. There was a studio audience of 3,000, many of whom were very vocal in their opposition to certain speakers. There was also conflict between individual speakers.
