Article Abstract:
There is set to be a significant shift towards digital terrestrial television broadcasting in the UK over the next few years. This may even go as far as to pose a threat to satellite broadcasting, according to some observers. The Independent Television Commission is currently considering applications for digital television licences. Applicants include BSkyB, currently a satellite broadcaster, which has linked with Granada, Carlton and the BBC to make a bid for three of the six digital 'multiplexes' which are being made available.

AMBRIDGE: the red mist
Article Abstract:
There is no political motivation behind the story lines in the popular radio programme 'The Archers,' according to Graham Harvey, the programme's agricultural story editor. He has attracted considerable criticism from people who believe that he is presenting farmers in a negative light and that he is imposing an urban agenda on rural life. He responds by stating that he was a scriptwriter for many years, and would not have survived if he had tried to make his own points of view known.

At last, a cineaste in Westminster
Article Abstract:
There are many young people in the UK who have the talent to develop a successful career in the film industry, according to Film and Tourism Minister Tom Clarke. However, there are currently few opportunities available to them. He is determined that new government funding for the film industry will go to encouraging talented young film-makers, as well as to established film companies. He is also keen to ensure that UK cinemas show more British-made films.
