The best seat in the house
Article Abstract:
Plays shown on television tend to get much less media attention than those produced in the theatre, according to Simon Curtis, chief producer of BBC2's 'Performance' season of stage plays on television. Some plays work better on television than others, and quiet, intense, emotional moments tend to be most effective. Curtis feels that it is important to produce programmes which may only appeal to a small number of people, but also retains an awareness of ratings.

Edinburgh: a survivor's guide
Article Abstract:
The annual arts festival in Edinburgh, Scotland, will run for five weeks in 1998. It is best to read the 'Fringe Guide' and the 'International Festival Guide' in advance, as it will be impossible to visit every single attraction. Some shows are extremely popular, so it is advisable to book early. It is worth listening to other visitors to find out which shows are the most interesting, and it is also wise to seek free ticket offers.
