Viktor and the wolf
Article Abstract:
Conducting is not as difficult as composing, according to Viktor Fedotov, chief conductor of the Kirov. He began conducting at the age of 15, when he was playing in a military orchestra and the conductor suffered a heart attack. He has a great talent for memorizing large amounts of music, and this has been the main factor behind his success as a conductor. He is the ideal conductor for ballet, especially as he becomes totally absorbed in the score, the stage and the audience.

We have fans and mantillas; have we the legs?
Article Abstract:
The Royal Ballet rehearse Don Quixote under Susan Jones in Baron's Court, West London, England. The dancers appear young and thin off stage. Swords, tambourines and fans are among the props. Mikhail Baryshnikov's version of Don Quixote needs 197 costumes in 110 designs. Costume supervisor Wizzy Shawyer finds it difficult to fit the costumes as dancers' movements have to be accommodated. Former Bolshoi ballerina Madame Messerer, 84, coaches the principal girls.

Queues at returns counters all through January have one main cause: the male's inability to learn from experience
Article Abstract:
It has become very common for people to return unwanted or unsuitable Christmas gifts to the shop where they were purchased. This practice also takes place on a smaller scale throughout the year. After Christmas, most of the goods that are returned have been brought for women by men who have not been able to judge the correct size to buy. In certain cases, stores actually encourage shoppers to return goods that they are not totally satisfied with.
