Article Abstract:
There are many resorts along the coast of Istria, the Adriatic peninsula where Italy meets the Balkans, which resemble Venice, Italy. This is because Venice controlled the coast of Istria for 500 years. The people in this region are initially rather unwelcoming to visitors, but after a short time are generous and warm. Places which are particularly worth visiting include Koper, Slovenia, where there is a beautifully restored old town centre, and Pula, Croatia, which has the sixth-largest Roman amphitheatre in existence.

And their national hero is a poet
Article Abstract:
Slovenia's image abroad has been damaged recently by the conflict in former Yugoslavia, but in fact it has remained almost untouched by war. It has a strong national identity, and its people have a great interest in its language and literature. The centre of Ljubljana has extremely attractive architecture, and across the whole country the streets are clean and the people are very friendly.

In living memory of a loved poet
Article Abstract:
The centenary of Tennyson's death occurs in Oct 1992. He paid tribute to Dante and Virgil who inspired his poems 'Ulysses' and 'Morte d'Arthur.' His poems have been read by millions and will survive as long as English poetry itself. His poetry provides consolation. Walt Whitman paid him tribute in 1887, when he referred to his fine verbalism.
