Wanted: arts graduates with a convincing bedside manner
Article Abstract:
Some UK medical schools are considering responding to the shortage of doctors by offering three- or four-year postgraduate degrees for people who have already gained a degree in another discipline. They point to the fact that graduate medical courses are already widespread in North America. Such courses allow medical schools to take on students from other educational backgrounds who can offer a higher level of maturity than ordinary medical undergraduates. Some observers are concerned about the prospect of condensing medical training.

One bleep and you're a doctor
Article Abstract:
This is the time of year when 3,500 new junior doctors join hospitals around the UK. They will have to deal with difficult situations with little or no support, and will be working extremely long hours. They are working against a background of controversy, as the British Medical Association feels that many of them are not equipped to cope properly and protests against their working conditions continue.
