Welcome to the war of the working week
Article Abstract:
The UK's next conflict with the European Union is set to focus on the issue of working hours, especially if, as expected, the UK fails in its legal challenge to the 48-hour week directive adopted by the European Council of Ministers in 1993. The UK feels that strict regulation of working hours and holiday entitlement will have a negative impact on employment, while continental European countries accept the directive without question, as they have always had legislation of this kind. The UK is now seeking a special opt-out from the directive.

Patriots must be Europeans
Article Abstract:
Many Conservatives in the UK find it hard to accept the concept of a united Europe, as they feel that it goes against patriotism and nationalism. In taking this view, they fail to realise that the only patriotic choice for the UK is as part of a confederal Europe. The UK needs the strength which the European Union offers, and in remaining alone would become very insignificant.
