UK painter David Hockney has lived in California since 1964. He was born in Bradford, Yorkshire. Hockney aims to return to Yorkshire to paint. He is a private man. His stage settings for the production of 'Turandot' at the Lyric Opera in Chicago have been successful. He uses technology to produce lighting and effects to the music. His next stage production is for 'Die Frau ohne Schatten' at Covent Garden in London, UK. Hockney also experiments with photo-collages. He does not want to make films because of the expense.

A choice that's much constrained
Article Abstract:
Britain's first general election within the exchange rate mechanism of the European Monetary System finds the external disciplines, applied to all member countries, prevents the use of inflation. Raising taxes will be the only way to increase public expenditure. The Conservatives' economic philosophy is more libertarian than Labour's but they are more authoritarian on other freedoms; Labour is the opposite. They will have to follow basically the same policies whoever is elected, producing similar results.
