Well executed
Article Abstract:
Rebecca Horn's exhibition at the Mayor Gallery includes seven modest automated art pieces. These demonstrate her Surrealism with carefully made mysteries with mechanical punchlines and can be seen as metaphors of the dissatisfied person. Anselm Kiefer's exhibition at Anthony d'Offay, which centres on his 'The Women of the Revolution', is reviewed. It is similar to Beuys's 'The End of the Twentieth Century.' Kiefer uses iron beds and leaden sheets labelled with women's names.

In the shadow of atrocity
Article Abstract:
Post-war German artists have mainly avoided any mention or portrayal of Nazism, reflecting the general desire of ordinary people to forget the atrocities of the second world war. Those who have felt the need to deal with the Nazi era in some way have often been criticised and misunderstood. This is particularly the case with Anselm Kiefer, who has frequently challenged the view that Nazism was an inexplicable aberration in the history of the German nation.

The artist formerly known as British
Article Abstract:
The French consider the UK 20th Century painter, Francis Bacon, whose works are being shown at the Pompidou Centre, Paris, up to October 14 1996, as European, and not British. Around 5,000 visitors a day are visiting the exhibition. In the works of Bacon visitors can see signs of his love for the works of Dutch, Spanish and Italian painters, and it is a tribute to him to view him as one who captures sense of being European.
