Western banks sack 40% of Russian financial staff
Article Abstract:
In order to get to grips with the current economic and financial crisis in Russia, many western banks with operations in the region are being forced to make huge job cuts. It has been estimated that between 30% and 40% of the 4,000 staff employed by western banks in the Russian capital have been made redundant. It is said that local employees have borne the brunt of these redundancies, most being lower grade staff, traders and researchers. Although no companies have yet decided to withdraw from Russia at least four top-tier investment companies are understood to have been putting their Moscow expansion plans on hold. Other companies are believed to be reconsidering the relocation of staff from the UK to Russia as a result of the crisis.

Who wants to be a family doctor?
Article Abstract:
British GPs no longer have any incentive to make patient care their highest priority. They have many targets to meet, but these are mainly incidental to high standards of patient care and in fact prevent GPs from spending quality time with their patients. Many medical students now do not wish to go into general practice when they qualify, and many GP training places remain unfilled. Some inner-city practices now cannot recruit enough GPs, and this is forcing them to reduce their patient lists.
