Article Abstract:
The recent IRA bomb attack in London, England, must not be allowed to deflect attention away from the very strong desire among ordinary people in Northern Ireland to bring about a lasting peace. It is now vital that the Republican movement accepts that violence must be renounced, and that all-party talks are instigated as soon as possible. It is also important for the UK government to ensure that it has full information about developments within the Republican movement.

The stalling of peace
Article Abstract:
A number of developments recently have served to heighten uncertainty about the future of the peace process in Northern Ireland. A report issued by the international body headed by former US senator George Mitchell indicated that there is no chance of the IRA or loyalists decommissioning weapons before peace negotiations, contrary to the stance taken by the UK government. Further controversy was created when John Major announced plans for a local election.
