When one region's history is another region's oppression
Article Abstract:
The proposal by Spanish Education Minister Esperanza Aguirre that all children should follow a history curriculum that emphasizes the unitary nature of Spain's history has attracted considerable controversy. The Catalans and Basques believe that this approach would have a negative impact on their cultural identity, and the proposal has also been rejected by inhabitants of Andalusia and the Canary Islands. It is very unlikely that the Spanish government will be able to use the teaching of history as a way of reducing the impetus towards separate identities for Spain's regional groups.

Article Abstract:
Publishers of educational material in the UK aim most of their hardback history books at children aged between seven and 11. The larger, glossier books generally cover British History, Ancient History or World History. The most widely covered subject at this level is Ancient Egypt. Kingfisher and Oxford both have one volume guides to ancient civilizations, while Dorling Kindersley has three books on the Egyptians. For British History, suitable books include the 'Young Oxford History of Britain and Ireland.'

History in the making
Article Abstract:
British history is taught independently of European history, fallaciously assuming that everything important can be related to British causes. The Glorious Revolution of 1688-91 was a critical point in Britain's history but the way it is taught is different from reality. A foreign army of about 21,000 men sent by the Dutch States General invaded England before the small group of English non-conformists summoned the Prince of Orange.
