When tipping is an issue of high ethics

Article Abstract:

Tipping has gained considerable publicity in the UK recently as a result of the recommendation from the Low Pay Commission that tips should be included in the calculation of what makes up the minimum pay of 3.60 pounds sterling an hour. Some observers feel that tipping is an exchange designed to facilitate social intercourse in situations where relations with strangers may cause embarrassment. Others regard it as a form of moral blackmail. Most people pay a tip automatically added to their restaurant bill simply because they do not wish to attract attention by disputing it.

Assassination of an innocent

Article Abstract:

The recent sectarian murder by Loyalist gunmen of Sean Brown, a Catholic, in the village of Bellaghy, County Derry, Northern Ireland, has caused great shock in the local community. He was a gentle, friendly man whose main interest was the village's Gaelic Athletic Association football club. It was probably his work with the football club which attracted the attention of his murderers. He was very careful to bring the Catholic and Protestant communities together, but his killers will have seen his work as a sign of nationalism.
