When truth is the first British casualty of a foreign war
Article Abstract:
The recently published Scott report details the way in which parliament was misled about the sales of weapons to Iraq, but does not attribute responsibility for this deception to any particular minister. It is likely that this was an approach designed deliberately to encourage parliament to consider the key issue of government responsibility. The report does not simply reveal the shortcomings of Conservative government, but looks more closely at how the Foreign Office operates under governments of all parties. It is now time to address this issue.

When rates hinge on expectations great and small
Article Abstract:
Consumers in the UK are becoming more aware of the extent to which they are now exposed to the effects of higher interest rates. This is demonstrated most clearly in the housing market, where dramatic changes in mortgage approvals over recent years are largely attributable to changes in financial markets' expectations about the future development of interest rates. People's expectations about interest rates are now very significant, especially as fixed-rate mortgages become more popular.
