Where do moo-cows go when they die?
Article Abstract:
Dr Alan Long, vegetarian expert, believes children's stories such as the popular 'Bramble', sold by Sainsbury, should be more realistic in their description of farm conditions. The director of Sainsbury's book business, Michael Rosen, says this issue has been considered. He feels that these books will not cause future harm and that they are not deceiving children any more than telling them about Father Christmas is deceiving them. Many authors prefer happy endings for children under 12. An unwritten publishing rule is that the ideas of death and animals as food are not used for pre-school children.

Healthy habits are best learned young
Article Abstract:
The cardiovascular fitness of children today is no less than that of children in earlier generations, even though they take much less exercise. However, lack of exercise and poor diet in childhood will probably have implications for health in adult life. Recent research indicates that adult physical activity patterns are established in childhood, and it is therefore vital to encourage children to undertake more physical activity.
