Why do our students fear failure more than death?
Article Abstract:
There has been a rise in student suicide levels at all universities in the UK over recent years. This problem has received very little attention, mainly because many universities fear the negative publicity which student suicides can bring. In many cases, students who contemplate suicide are very angry about something, but some also become suicidal because they enter a state of despair. Many very gifted students fear failure, especially in a culture where material wealth is equated with personal worth.

In a state of fear
Article Abstract:
Violent crime has become extremely common in South Africa, with more than 1 million serious crimes being reported in 1995. These included 10,000 murders. This has led to many people, both black and white, feeling afraid to venture outside. For wealthy whites, there is a great temptation to simply leave the country. The high crime rate is also having a very negative impact on the tourist industry.
