Wittgenstein's day at the sales
Article Abstract:
In 1993 Sotheby's sold proof-reading documents of philosopher Ludwig Wittgenstein's work 'Tractatus Logico-Philosophicus,' which publishers could not understand. Wittgenstein considered the Kegan Paul joint German and English 1922 edition the first. This was edited by Cambridge linguist and philosopher C K Ogden. These manuscripts, proofs and letters in the sale are of great value to students, ideally kept together, but Sotheby's separated them into nine lots.
