Women in charge? Yes, that's news all right
Article Abstract:
Nikki Clarke and Sara Nathan, who both began their careers as BBC trainees in 1980, are soon to become the first female editors of national news programmes. Nikki Clarke will be responsible for the BBC's 'Six O'Clock News,' while Sara Nathan will be editor of 'Channel 4 News.' Both women feel that they have had a hard struggle in a male-dominated environment, but they do not believe that their influence will bring significant changes to news broadcasting.

Roll on the new role models
Article Abstract:
Strong, fearless women were presented as clear role models in the 1980s and early 1990s. However, since that time there has been a trend towards both fictional and real-life heroines showing their vulnerability. The way these anti-heroines behave is quite attractive. They are not perfect, but they do not need to be regarded merely as completely negative. They have faults, but they are still quite strongly aware of how they want their life to progress.
