Woodhead spares praise for teachers
Article Abstract:
The work of teachers should be given greater recognition, according to UK Chief Inspector of Schools Chris Woodhead, who has in the past gained a reputation for being extremely critical of teachers. Nevertheless, he feels that poor teachers should be identified and removed from the profession as quickly as possible. He has announced plans for schools watchdog Ofsted to make changes to some of its procedures. This follows criticism that some inspectors did not give teachers enough information about their performance.

Grown-up bullies
Article Abstract:
Universities and colleges across the UK are now being forced to acknowledge that tightening budgets and stronger competition for students can put staff under a great deal of pressure. This can in turn lead to tension and cases where individual members of staff are harassed or bullied. A senior staff member may impose unreasonable deadlines on a junior member of staff, for example, or there may be cases of a member of staff taking credit for another's work or ideas.
