Would Madam like to be grilled or soft-soaped?
Article Abstract:
Interviewers' approaches to dealing with politicians have changed considerably in recent years. They used to allow the politicians to use the interview as a way of getting across their ideas, but are now prepared to ask searching questions. David Frost, for example, has attracted mixed reactions to his way of interviewing politicians. Some observers believe that he is very clever at extracting significant answers without the interviewee realising, while others believe that he is too friendly to the politicians. Other interviewers try to make politicians show whether they can defend their position.

The taming of Hain the Pain
Article Abstract:
It is important for political activists not to campaign on a single issue, according to Peter Hain, who first came to public attention in the UK as a young anti-apartheid campaigner. He believes that the best approach is to have a general form of politics to aggregate all the single issues. He later found a role in community politics in the UK, eventually becoming a Labour frontbench spokesman on employment. He has kept closely to the Labour party line, but believes that there is still room for creative debate and thinking.
