Year after year, the bitter toll of fathomless deaths
Article Abstract:
There were 57 deaths in police custody in the UK in the year to May 1997, according to the Home Office. Cause of death has been established in only 29 of these cases. This issue has become the subject of a number of campaigns, but still seems to be no closer to a resolution. There are a number of other serious problems with the justice system in the UK. These include the fact that many people remain in jail despite evidence of their innocence and that violent murders remain unsolved. It is now time to stop the system under which problems with policing are investigated by the police themselves.

Fly the flag? It's time to forget it
Article Abstract:
Many large multinational companies based in the UK are now shedding their British image. They are keen to present themselves as being above national boundaries and in a position to serve customers in all countries. They are developing global brands with values as well as with products, and are striving to connect countries, rather than dominate them. These transnational companies are now playing a key role in disseminating progressive values around the world.
