Yet another massacre, and a shocked nation asks: Can guns by controlled?
Article Abstract:
The issue of gun control has been highlighted once more in the US by the murder of 12 people in Atlanta, GA, by Mark Barton, who then killed himself. President Bill Clinton and Vice-President Al Gore have both been strong supporters of stricter gun controls, but the House of Representatives rejected new gun control legislation after lobbying by the National Rifle Association. Bill Bradley, Gore's rival for the Democratic nomination, is seeking compulsory registration of all handguns, along with mandatory trigger locks.

Why, some ask, should we grieve for this rich son of an irrelevant family?
Article Abstract:
The death of John F. Kennedy Jr has had a particularly significant impact on those who belonged to the same generation and shared his views and aspirations. His death also comes at a time when many of the negative aspects of the Kennedy family name have been eliminated. The unifying effect of his death on US society is unlikely to last long. Indeed, around 10% of Americans are already questioning why his death has been greeted with shock and dismay, and there are signs that the Kennedy mystique is coming to an end.

Students gunned down as 'men in black' run amok
Article Abstract:
Armed men attacked Columbine High School in a suburb of Denver, CO, wounding at least 14 pupils. A number of pupils have stated that they recognized the gunmen as pupils or former pupils, but others said that it was not possible to identify the attackers because they were masked. Three young men were arrested in the grounds of the school, having apparently surrendered to the police. However, it was later stated that these men have been eliminated as suspects.
