A kiss goodbye to radical radio
Article Abstract:
Kiss FM, the oldest and largest dance music radio station in the UK, is shifting towards a more mainstream music policy. It particularly aims to compete with Capital Radio. Many observers feel that Emap, Kiss FM's owner, should not be blamed for the disappearance of the station's innovative edge. They believe that this is attributable to the Radio Authority, which has allowed Kiss to change its policy of allowing a series of different DJs to play whatever they wanted.

Snap, crackle, pop go the ratings
Article Abstract:
Virgin Radio saw a sharp rise in audience numbers after it was purchased by radio broadcaster Chris Evans in Dec 1997. However, audience numbers have gradually declined since Jun 1998. The breakfast show hosted by Evans himself lost 336,000 listeners in autumn 1998, and unofficial research indicates that this decline is set to continue. Virgin Radio's advertising revenue continues to rise, but this may not continue indefinitely if audience levels continue to fall.
