Article Abstract:

Long-haul travel is becoming extremely popular among Britons, but many travellers remain unaware that they could expose themselves to serious health risks. Many travel agencies only offer general health advice, and some do not offer any advice at all unless specifically requested to by the client. There are particular dangers for people who have never undertaken long-haul travel before, and may be completely unaware of the precautions which they should take before their journey. The most common health risk is malaria, with around 2,500 people a year now being treated for malaria in the UK.

What price a child's life?

Article Abstract:

Advances in medical technology are making it possible to keep alive people who until recently would have died. This is in turn creating problems for NHS buyers who have to decide whether it is possible to fund such treatment, which is usually very expensive. This is particularly the case when children are involved. Experts generally believe that it is best for the most difficult decisions regarding life-saving treatment to be made by multidisciplinary committees.
