A force to reckon with: What applied the brakes on pioneer 10 and 11?
Article Abstract:
NASA launched the spacecraft Pioneer 10 and 11 in 1972 and 1973, respectively and it returned stunning images of Jupiter and Saturn. Researchers determined that the spacecraft is slowing down at a constant rate, each year falling 8,000 miles short of their calculated positions while some experts believe that something on the spacecraft such as leaking gas or heat radiation created the braking force.
