A new phase in the war on cancer

The NIH is sponsoring an outside review of the National Cancer Institute that will focus on organizational structure, recruiting, research priorities and budget flexibility. The review was ordered before the Mar 1995 resignation of NCI director Samuel Broder.

Panel offers radical therapy for National Cancer Institute
Article Abstract:
A panel of independent researchers headed by Michael Bishop and Paul Calabresi has recommended a major reorganization of the National Cancer Institute. Suggestions include cuts in intramural funding and AIDS research and reform of supervisory procedures.

Toxicology goes molecular
Article Abstract:
Molecular biology is playing a greater role in the growing field of toxicology. Molecular probes allow researchers to search for toxins in the cells of subjects from urine, blood and breath samples. The research is still in the early stages.
