A park for the people
Article Abstract:
Madagascar is beginning to implement sustainable environmental policies. A 41,000-hectare park was established in 1991 to preserve rare species and curb deforestation. Indigenous residents are permitted to use the outer rim of the park for gathering fuel wood and medicinal plants, and practice farming techniques such as alternative crops and erosion prevention.
