A study in complexity
Article Abstract:
Physicist Stephen Wolfram is at the forefront of the field of complexity theory. He developed Mathematica, a comprehensive mathematics processing program which incorporates a very large collection of mathematical formulas and constants. This program could be used for calculations, graphics, formatting, and computer modeling and simulations. He is conducting studies on computational physics in which he claims to have reinvented physics. Although very secretive on the subject, his colleagues are quite positive that he will succeed.

Recycling is not garbage
Article Abstract:
Anti-recycling organizations have been formed by private companies involved in the industries of packaging, consumer products, and waste-management. These critics of recycling prefer to keep trash in landfills. Advocates of recycling, on the other hand, point out that landfills are more costly and that they contribute to air, land, and water pollution. Furthermore, consumer researchers report that the public supports recycling because they believe that it helps preserve the environment and conserve natural resources.

Arsenic and old waste
Article Abstract:
MIT civil and environmental engineering professor Harry Hemond has been conducting arsenic research in the Aberjona Watershed aquatic ecosystem. He discovered that arsenic often combines with other elements to form arsenite and arsenate. Hemond reports that the relative proportions of the toxic compounds are influenced by such factors as microbe populations, temperature, dissolved oxygen and organic matter.
