Deep earthquakes: a fault too big?
Article Abstract:
Digital seismometer recordings of two deep earthquakes indicate fault zones of 50 km by 65 km and 30 km by 50 km, zones larger than predicted by models of the forces involved. Thermally controlled processes may be a complicating factor.

Sea-floor depth and the Lake Wobegon effect
Article Abstract:
A great deal of information about the Earth's heating system and how it works can be learned by studying the ocean floor. Differing depths offer important clues for geophysicists studying heat flow anomalies. New research is discussed.
