AIDS trials ethics questioned
Article Abstract:
The discovery of combination drug therapies for AIDs in changing how clinical trials are conducted and raising numerous ethical questions. The need to clinically assess the efficacy of different therapies must be balanced against study participants' right to recieve the most optimal therapies.

Researchers worry that media articles hyping advances in AIDS treatments will raise unrealistic expectations. The media fail to distinguish the difference between treating primary and established infections and do not cover the problems of drug resistance and toxicity.
