Agencies Launch Effort To Improve U.S. Schools
Article Abstract:
The United States government has formed the Interagency Education Research Initiative, which is a collaboration with the National Science Foundation, the National Institutes of Health and the Department of Education to improve reading, math and science instruction. These groups have set high, but attainable goals with a comfortable budget that will grow to $75 million a year by 2001.

Mixed Grades for NSF's Bold Reform of Statewide Education
Article Abstract:
The National Science Foundation has made strong moves to reform the teaching of science and math in New York public schools by granting money for conducting summer workshops on these disciplines. The program is receiving mixed reviews as some workshops are failing to improve the students' performances.
