Companies rush to patent DNA
Article Abstract:
Although the US Supreme Court has ruled that entire genes can be patented, it is unclear whether individuals or companies can lay claim to 'expressed gene sequences,' DNA fragments that can be used to reconstruct complete gene sequences. Patent decisions are likely to influence the rate of discovery.
