An analysis of the process of packaging substitution in the drinks industry: the Spanish case
Article Abstract:
A study conducted on the process of diffusion of technological change in the drinks industry in Spain between 1982 and 1992 reveals that the glass bottle industry remains the top choice in packaging drinks despite the emergence of three technological alternatives. These alternatives, which are metal cans, cartons and plastics, have reduced the share of glass to 36% out of the total litres bottled. Environmental legislation is seen as the leading factor that influences the choice of packaging.

Tracing international competitiveness through official trade figures: the case of the Greek food, beverage and tobacco industries
Article Abstract:
The performance of Greek tobacco, beverage and food industries in the international market may be traced using trade figures. These industries form the largest manufacturing sector in the country and, with signs pointing to gradual saturation in the local market, should expand in the global market. Results reveal that government action has been beneficial to these industries and that the physical volume factor has had an adverse effect on the trade balance of these industries.

Productive inertia and technological flows in food and drink processing
Article Abstract:
The idea of productive inertia was found to be inapplicable to the food and drink (F&D) industry. It has been observed that radical changes have undertaken with regards to processes used in the F&D industry for the last 20 to 25 years. With regards to the process of cooking, techniques that lessen cooking time and enhance quality as well as flexibility have been developed.
