Residual benefits
Article Abstract:
Water-treatment plants have started programs to convert sludge into usable residuals which can be used in top-soil blending operations and turf farming. Although residuals are less effective than biosolids as nutrients they are cost-effective especially in land applications and are not hazardous to the environment. The natural benefits of moving residuals and biosolids have led wastewater and water facilities authorities to use them together.

Toward a healthy harbor
Article Abstract:
The $3.4 million project in Boston Harbor, MA, has helped to improve the area's environment. The construction of wastewater treatment facilities has reduced fecal coliform levels and zinc cooper loadings to 75%. The Boston Harbor Project includes the construction of facilities in three areas in Boston Harbor. The new facilities have wastewater treatment plants, headworks, a sludge-to-fertilizer plant and 15 mi underwater tunnels.
