On the uses of history
Article Abstract:
The history of science, technology and medicine (STM) is now considered as a valid discipline under history. It has come of age and materials on this topic are readily available. History is very important in the field of STM because as science and technology becomes more integrated to the fabric of nationhood and trade, there is a need to understand how this came about. Though writing the history of STM has many shortcomings and limitations and despite the limited public understanding of the field, historians of STM must push on for these disciplines that are too important to be left behind.

Art and illustration in the natural history sciences
Article Abstract:
The conference "Drawing from Nature" held on April 14-16, 1999, at the Natural History Museum, London, UK, centered on the history of natural history illustration. The event, convened by the Society for the History of Natural History, traces the development of botanical illustration from the early works of prominent illustrators of 16th-century herbals such as Hans Weiditz, a contemporary and probably a student of Albrecht Durer, to the Broughton collection of botanical drawings and prints at the Fitzwilliam Museum in Cambridge, UK.
