Artificial societies
Article Abstract:
Brookings Institution (Washington, DC) researchers have developed a software program that enables social scientists to study history by changing single variables and analyzing the results. The program, called Sugarscape, is a model of an artificial society that helps in the study of social phenomena ranging from racial segregation to mass migration. The program consists of agents that act based on simple rules after being given specific orders. Further development of this technique might allow for an interdisciplinary approach to the study of the social sciences.

High-tech help for ancient turtles
Article Abstract:
Biologists contend with the threatening extinction of Dermochelys coriacea, or leatherback turtles, through an armament of advanced technological research facilities mainly focusing on the improvement of the female reproductivity, migration and feeding patterns. Microchips and transmitters are utilized to monitor the long-distance migrations. Ultrasound tests, blood samples, hormonal levels provide maximum data needed for primary fecundity care.
