Axon retraction and degeneration in development and disease
Article Abstract:
The developmental phenomena of exuberant axonal projections and synaptic connections are discussed. Both small-scale and large-scale axon pruning are essential for the generation of adult connectivity, as a mechanism for neural plasticity, for removal of axonal connections damaged in the adult, for stabilization of the affected neural circuits and for initiating repairs.

Molecular gradients and development of retinotopic maps
Article Abstract:
The molecular mechanisms involved in the development of a vertebrate neural map in the visual system are discussed. Axon extension, anterior-posterior (AP)-specific interstitial branching and EphBs and ephrin-Bs control dorsal-ventral (DV)- retinotopic mapping are the mechanisms for map development.

Mechanisms of vertebrate synaptogenesis
Article Abstract:
Synaptogenesis is a complex process involving the formation of functional synapses between neurons. Molecules derived from target neurons influence synaptic form, specificity and stability.
