Industries are increasingly downsizing their own laboratories and providing funding for academic research organizations. This results in a reduction in basic research as well as product-oriented research that is not deemed profitable. Scientists must take action to avoid total takeover.

Recognizing handwriting in context
Article Abstract:
Univ of Buffalo researchers have developed a context-based system of computer handwriting recognition. Candidate words generated by a conventional system are statistically evaluated for their probability of grammatical connection to other words in a message.
