Borrowing From Biology to Power the Petite
Article Abstract:
Nanotechnology researchers have been interested in building micromachines, but no good method for supplying power has been available. However, researchers are now looking into the possibility of using protein based molecular motors from organisms. Early experiments have proved that cellular motors can be remounted on engineered surfaces and perform some rudimentary work. Research is still in an exploratory stage.

Raising a Glass to Health And Nanotubes
Article Abstract:
The Picower Institute for Medical Research in Manhasset, New York, reported that studies suggest that an alcohol metabolite prevents the formation of advanced glycation end products from building up in coronary arteries. The findings may explain the paradox seen in the French who are able to consume a diet of high-fat foods and fine wines while suffering only one-third as much heart disease as Americans.

Race for Molecular Summits
Article Abstract:
The discovery in 1995 of a soil microbe with novel anticancer activities created a competitive race among biologists to test the molecule and create it from scratch. It was called epothilone A and it does not kill the cells directly but blocks their ability to divide. The process of synthetically creating a molecule is described, as are the effects the race has on pharmaceutical discoveries in general.
